JCPenney Partners with Goodwill Industries of South Texas To Provide Interview Wear to Unemployed Veterans

Corpus Christi, TX – In the Coastal Bend, the veterans population represents over 42,000 people.  Sadly, it has been identified that a majority of unemployed veterans have either a disability such as post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or a disadvantaging condition such as a long employment gap, making it more challenging for them to obtain and maintain employment.   To tackle this growing issue, Goodwill Industries of South Texas offers job training and placement services.  This program is supported by a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance and partners with local businesses like JCPenney.

On Thursday, March 15th at 10 a.m., JCPenney will be opening their doors to help veterans select appropriate interview wear.  “We’re always pleased to serve veterans and their families in the Coastal Bend.  It’s unfortunate there are veterans who are having a tough time transitioning into the civilian workplace and we want to make it a little easier by helping them find interview clothes for their next job opportunity,” said Jeff Jordan, General Manager at JCPenney.

A favorable first impression matters, especially in the workplace.  Clothing significantly influences how a job applicant is perceived and how employers might respond. “Helping veterans get appropriate interview clothes for job interviews is a crucial step.   Their interview outfit is more than clothes on their back; it’s a second chance to help that veteran get back on their feet,” said Keith Sanders, Employment Consultant at Goodwill.

Unemployed or underemployed veterans with honorable and less than honorable discharge can come to Goodwill Industries and be provided with one-on-one, intensive, personalized case management, helping them successfully transition into the civilian workplace.
